The Profession
What the work actually is.
An ADHD practitioner works with adults — and often the families around them — for whom attention, planning, time and follow-through are daily friction. The work is structured coaching: building external systems for planning and routine, working with emotional regulation, and helping a client understand how her own attention actually behaves rather than how she wishes it did.
Sessions are practical and iterative: reviewing what worked since the last session, adjusting the systems that did not, rehearsing the demands of the week ahead. The craft is scaffolding — the practitioner supplies the structure the client's executive function struggles to supply on its own, and then, patiently, teaches the client to build it for herself.
The scope line is clear, and the curriculum makes it firm: an ADHD practitioner does not diagnose ADHD, does not prescribe or advise on medication, and does not treat the conditions that often travel with it. Where a client is under the care of a prescriber or therapist, the practitioner works alongside that care — many clients are referred precisely because coaching complements it.
Who Chooses This Path
The people who do this well.
Many who choose this path found it personally: their own late diagnosis, or a child's, turned into years of self-education that now wants a professional form. Others are teachers, HR professionals, nurses and coaches who kept meeting ADHD in their work and want to serve it properly. It suits people who like structure — and are unbothered by its constant repair.
A Day in the Practice

Two coaching sessions in the morning — one client rebuilding a work-week structure after a job change, another rehearsing a hard conversation with an employer about deadlines. Notes after each, brief and factual.
Midday, a call with the parents of an adult client — with the client's consent — about how the household can support routines without policing them. The afternoon holds session preparation, a between-session check-in message to a client (accountability is part of the service), and the practice's own administration, run on the same external systems the practitioner teaches.

The ladder begins with a foundation credential that is enough to start supervised, scoped work, and rises through the practitioner diplomas to fellowship — each level studied alongside the practice it serves.

Market Context
The demand, stated quietly.
Awareness and diagnosis of adult ADHD have risen sharply in the past decade, and coaching has become a recognised complement to clinical care — many referrals come from prescribers and therapists themselves. Graduates practise privately and online, where scheduling flexibility suits both practitioner and client.
Public labour statistics point to continued growth in health-education, coaching and community-support roles through the decade; beyond that direction of travel, the University quotes no figure it cannot stand behind.
Practitioner earnings vary widely with role, region, hours kept and the way a practice is run, and the University publishes no income figures for its graduates. A credential is preparation for the work, not a promise of a particular income.
